President Bill Service Menu Secrets

Video:YouTube/Klaus R.

An interesting video showing differences between the FCC and EU versions of the President Bill along with some 'service menu' secrets.

In common with most of the newer CB radios from President there are no adjustments available inside the radio so it's obvious that any adjustments have to made via either software or a hidden service menu. I would expect that most if not all of the recent radios will have such a hidden service menu....

  1. Ok, how do we access the service menu?

  2. The service menu is accessed by holding down the PTT, CB/WX Alert, and EMG buttons and then turning on the power switch. With a stock radio, the service menu displays two parameters; PL and AL. PL is power and AL is audio. Larger values for PL increase carrier power and smaller values of AL increase modulation. If you have modified the radio per this link: http://radioaficion.com/cms/president-bill-fcc-mods/ then the service menu displays four parameters PM, PL, AM, and AL. In this service menu, PM is carrier power and AM is modulation. PL and AL do nothing. With the modification given in the link, about 8 watts of carrier is possible. The audio driver is insufficient to drive 8 watts of carrier into good modulation levels. So it is better to adjust the carrier to a lower value which will allow modulation levels around 90% to 95%

    3. Once you get it into where it will do "PM" or "AL", how do you actually adjust the audio or power up or down? I know this sounds like a stupid question but I honestly cannot get any functions to happen beyond the point where you select "PL" or "AL". I have the FCC (USA) models. I read elsewhere that factory default is 2 or 2.5 Watts and that using the hidden menu, you can make it go up to 3.9 Watts, where it should be.

      Any help appreciated.

  3. Thank you for the information on accessing the service menu. I was able to follow the steps and turn on the service menu but I cannot figure out how to adjust the values. There must be some combination of buttons you have to push in order to change the values.

  4. is it possible to limit the power, eg. 5W AM and 10W FM but keep the AM modulation and FM deviation at good values?

    1. I mean ok, it is possible to change the power with PL or PM, and you could check it with a ROS/Watt Meter, but how to know when AM modulation or FM dev are at best?

  5. Once you have modified the radio, how do you switch between low and medium power please?
