This Friday - The Big Net - 37 Years Of Legal CB Radio

Time to dust off those CB Radios and get on the air to celebrate 37 years of LEGAL CB Radio in the UK.

UK FM CB Radio was legalised on 2nd November 1981 (seems like only yesterday) and in June 2014 AM and SSB were legalised also.

Southern UK 11m SSB Net 25/10/18

Video:YouTube/2E0TWG_M6JVI_CT2116 TIM

Some of the great SSB action from the Southern 11m Net here in the UK....

It is truly wonderful to see how SSB activity has grown over the past 4 years since legalisation here in the UK. I remember prior to legalisation there were many stations saying that SSB on the mid band would be a complete flop and no-one would want to use it..... How wrong they were!

NEW 'M7' Callsign Heard

The first 'M7' amateur callsign has been heard in the North East of England. I was dubious having not heard anything about M7 callsigns being issued and the fact that the station in question has the callsign M7CON!!!!!

Anyway it appears M7 callsigns are a thing and here is a short clip of Darren M7CON calling into the local GB2RS news roundup....

Well done for passing your exam Darren and for being the first M7 heard in the North East!

President Bill Hi-Power

Video:YouTube/Klaus R.

A quick video showing a modded President Bill with louder FM TX audio and increased output power of around 25 watts. Personally I think it's better just to use a small linear amplifier rather than put extra strain on the radio but it's still interesting to see what people can do with these little sets.
