Radios shipped to North America now have option 7 and Option 8 in the export menu to provide CA (Canada) and US (United States) - Both of these are the same with 26.965 - 27.405 AM/FM

Personally I've always though that you're better off just using a small linear amplifier. Increasing the output power just puts more strain on the components and shortens the life of the radio but some may find this interesting. A very simple modification to give more power from this little set....

President George II - Price Update

 

Seen on the Mediaglobe website in Italy, who have the George II listed for €299 which is certainly a step in the right direction. This equates to £257 but we may need to add the 'rip-off Britain factor' to that price! 

I really believe that they will need to keep this radio below £300 if they want it to be a success. It is competing against the highly regarded CRT 7900V which retails around £230 and boasts high power and a superb Noise Reduction Circuit. 

Radio is expected late August/early September......

Thunderpole T-X Wideband/Export Mode (World Exclusive)

The newly released Thunderpole T-X CB handheld can cover a much wider range of frequencies. 

This may be of interest to licenced Amateur Radio operators who are looking for a handheld radio to use on the 10m band.

JUST REMEMBER: The supplied 'rubber duck' antenna is tuned for the legal CB bands and the SWR is likely to be very high if used outside those bands, this could result in damage to your radio, so you will need an alternative antenna!

President George II - Price Revealed? (UPDATED)

 

The first 'official' price has been spotted for the new President George II CB Radio. 

The Czech Republic President Electronics website has the radio listed for 8,690 CZK (Czech koruna).

At today's exchange rates that would be £312 or  €365

If this proves to be accurate I do wonder how many people will be willing to pay over £300 for a CB radio especially when there are much cheaper alternatives which often have more power and features. 

UPDATE: sat-online.ch in Switzerland has the radio listed for 379.90 CHF (Swiss Francs) which equates to £337 or €393

President George FCC?

 

With the impending arrival of the new President George II in Europe, rumours are beginning to surface about a new 'George FCC' for US operators.

Insiders at President have hinted that the radio is in development and this would make sense as many other European radios have made an appearance in the US over the past few years especially now that FM is legal over there and EU radios can easily be adapted for the US market.   

So I guess we wait and see.....
